Pirro: FBI is now involved in investigation to identify those responsible for teen takeover fight at DC Chipotle

FBI Joins Investigation into Teen Brawl at D.C. Chipotle

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced that the FBI is stepping in to assist with the investigation surrounding a violent incident involving teenagers at a Chipotle in Washington, D.C. During a news conference, Pirro pointed fingers at the parents of the teens involved.

“Situations like this are really damaging the community’s quality of life,” Pirro stated, referencing the increasing difficulty residents face when trying to enjoy parks and public areas. “It feels like these out-of-control youths are taking away our sense of joy and peace.”

“It felt like an ambush. These kids looked like ninjas in black outfits and ski masks as they rushed into the restaurant,” she added.

This violent outbreak occurred just after Pirro vowed to hold parents responsible for their children’s actions and to combat youth crime more aggressively.

“These kids need to find productive outlets,” she emphasized, urging parents to take responsibility.

The conflict reportedly began with a heated argument between two groups of young people and quickly escalated into a more serious confrontation, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Pirro remarked, “This wasn’t just some random violence between individuals. There was substantial property damage. It was a takeover by individuals who thought they could escape the consequences. They likely won’t end up getting away with it.”

In light of the incident, Pirro plans to pursue criminal action against both the involved teens and their parents.

“If you’re aware of where your teen is and what they’re doing, and you choose to let things go unchecked, we will take legal action,” she asserted.

The Chipotle brawl saw one father, Rafael Jauregui, trying to protect his children during the chaos. He had taken his seven kids to a baseball game before heading to the restaurant. His youngest children, aged between 4 and 14, were present when the fight broke out.

“I had to tell my kids to stick close to me and to stay safe,” Rafael recounted. “It really felt like an ambush as these teens stormed in.” He described the scene with high chairs and other furniture being thrown during the fray.

Rafael expressed pride in his two sons who helped shield their younger sisters, but lamented that such experiences should never happen in front of children.

“On our way home, my son spoke about the fight. He couldn’t shake off the feeling that their safety was compromised. Now they’re questioning if they’d ever want to go back to Chipotle,” he shared.

Pirro has urged the D.C. Council to consider reinstating discretionary curfews to prevent such incidents in the future, as this is crucial for the safety of the community, especially with the upcoming celebrations in July marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Chipotle’s CEO stated, “The safety of our guests and staff is paramount. We have a zero-tolerance policy for reckless behavior in our restaurants and are cooperating with law enforcement.” He highlighted that no injuries were reported among staff or patrons during the incident.

Pirro concluded by stressing the need for parental involvement in discussions about youth behavior, indicating that this lack of oversight contributes significantly to issues like teen takeovers.
