A search is underway after a propeller plane crashed into the ocean Sunday night in Half Moon Bay, California, officials said.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said the crash occurred near Moss Beach Distillery around 7:13 p.m. local time, KRON reported.

Sheriff's Office Sgt. Philip Hallworth told the outlet there was evidence that the plane had gone into the water after an erratic flight and was found underwater. Search and rescue teams are responding to the accident.

Hallworth said the accident happened on Cabrillo Highway, a few miles from Half Moon Bay Airport.
