Tragic Jet Crash in Bangor, Maine
A private business jet crashed while taking off from Bangor International Airport in Maine on Sunday night, and all passengers on board are “presumed deceased,” according to officials.
This incident is part of a wave of fatal plane crashes occurring during a harsh winter storm that has disrupted air travel across the U.S. Roads became chaotic, leaving many without power.
As reported by the FAA, the aircraft had eight individuals aboard—seven passengers and one crew member. Initial reports indicated the crew member was seriously injured while the passenger was confirmed deceased.
However, Bangor police later clarified on Monday that the figures shared earlier were based on unverified information. They stated, “There were six people on board the plane. No one was transported to the hospital as a result of the incident and all on board the plane are presumed deceased. The identities of those on board the plane are being withheld at this time pending positive identification.”
The crash, which occurred around 7:45 p.m. local time, is under investigation as the FAA reported it happened during takeoff under “unknown circumstances.” The jet reportedly flipped and caught fire.
Due to the accident, Bangor International Airport was closed on Monday, as confirmed by the Bangor, Maine Police Department and the airport through their social media updates. They pointed out that emergency personnel responded promptly to the scene, indicating reports of an aircraft incident right around 7:45 p.m.
The broader impact on air travel has been significant as numerous flights across the country have faced cancellations and delays due to the ongoing winter storm.
