French tennis player Arthur Geer had an unexpected moment at Roland Garros on Sunday when he abruptly left the court during his first-round match. He had been pleading with the umpire for an emergency bathroom break. Trailing 4-2 in the first set against Russian player Karen Khachanov, Geer was visibly distressed, stating, “I need to go to the bathroom. I can’t move anymore. I’m going to go to the court.”
Typically, bathroom breaks are only allowed between sets. However, two officials rushed to Court Suzanne Lenglen to inquire about the “medical reasons” for his request. Geer, seemingly embarrassed, admitted, “Yes, I’m sick,” and went on to explain that he was experiencing “diarrhea.” His trainer confirmed that he was dealing with “stomach issues.”
Despite Geer’s pleas, play continued. After the next point, he hurriedly made his way to the locker room. Later, he mentioned that the referee permitted him to take a break due to “medical circumstances” and that he received medication for his abdominal pain.
Interestingly, Geer noted that he had felt fine the previous night but started feeling unwell in the morning. Ultimately, he lost the match to Khachanov in straight sets, marking an unfortunate early exit from the tournament.
