Player on Team with Trans Athlete Applauds Nevada Women for Boycotting Game

Players on the San Jose State University (SJSU) women's volleyball team say they are boycotting the University of Nevada's upcoming game because San Jose State allowed a biological male who identifies as female to join the team. I praise it. .

SJSU volleyball player Brooke Slusser publicly supported the Nevada women's team's refusal to play against her team after trans player Blair Fleming committed to San Jose State this season.

Slusser jumped on his X account and “applauded” the Wolfpack for announcing the boycott.

“I applaud the girls on the (Nevada Wolf Pack) volleyball team,” Slusser wrote in X. “It takes courage as a young woman to rebel against what your school has forced you to do and to stand up for what you believe in!” Another great step in the right direction for women's sports! ”

Slusser told Outkick that he was not made aware that Fleming was male until he joined the team. She is also part of a lawsuit against the NCAA for allowing Fleming to play as a woman.

Members of the Nevada team have parted ways with the school's athletic department and released a statement saying the team will play its game against SJSU as scheduled. However, the women alleged that the school administration made the announcement without consulting the team beforehand.

After the school issued its declaration, the team held a meeting and decided they did not want to play, despite statements from school administrators.

“We demand that our rights to on-court safety and fair competition be protected,” the team said in a statement. “We refuse to participate in any matches that promote injustice against female athletes.”

Still, despite the women's announcement, Nevada officials insist the women will play their scheduled game against San Jose.

“The University and its athletic programs are governed by the Nevada Constitution and Nevada law, which provide strict protections for equality of rights under the law, and that equality of rights is not guaranteed by the State or its territories on the basis of race. “No person shall be denied or abridged by, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, ancestry or national origin,” the school states. Said.

“The university complies with federal law as well as NCAA and Mountain West Conference rules and regulations, which include providing competition in an inclusive and supportive environment,” the statement continued.

“The University intends to proceed with the game as scheduled, and players may choose not to participate on the day of the game. No player will be subject to team disciplinary action for their decision not to participate in the game.” concluded Nevada officials.

Nevada is now one of five teams that declined to play against SJSU after the California school allowed Fleming to play on its women's team.
