Poland’s foreign minister says Putin should fear a war with NATO

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said in a speech on Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin should fear war with NATO because it would inevitably end in Russia’s defeat.

“It is not we in the West who should be afraid of a conflict with President Putin, but rather the opposite,” Sikorski said in a translated speech in the Sejm House of Commons. Politico first reported. “Because NATO is a defense agreement, we say this not to increase the sense of threat among Russians, but to show that an attack by Russia against any member of the alliance will ultimately result in… It’s worth being reminded of.” [Russia’s] It’s an inevitable defeat. ”

As the war in Ukraine continues, Western allies worry that Russia will turn its attention to NATO countries after Ukraine. Former President Mike Pence warned that Putin would target NATO countries if he won the war with Kiev.

The US Congress just passed a much-needed foreign aid package that gives Ukraine $61 billion to continue the fight. Sikorski said Polish companies should play a role in helping rebuild Ukraine’s economy, and Russia should answer for the damage it has caused.

In his speech, Sikorski focused on Russia’s foreign policy, saying Russia’s military and economy pale in comparison to its Western allies.

“President Putin’s only hope is our lack of resolve,” he said, stressing that NATO’s combined resources and capabilities far exceed Russia’s.

He also said that Poland remains committed to supporting Ukraine’s accession to the EU, despite concerns about it. “I remember that Poland’s immigration decision in 2004 raised similar concerns,” Sikorski said in an emphatic comment. Polish News Agency.

The foreign minister underlined Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s vision for the future and criticized the previous government’s “wrong decisions” that led to a loss of credibility and prestige. His comments appear to underline the country’s desire to re-establish itself as a reliable partner as the war continues.
