Police arrest man after attempting to carry machete, 3 knives into US Capitol, hours before Trump arrives

U.S. Capitol Police on Wednesday stopped and arrested a man who tried to bring a machete into the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) in Washington, D.C., hours before President-elect Donald Trump was scheduled to meet with Senate Republicans at the Capitol. did.

The Metropolitan Police Department said in a social media post that the incident occurred just after 2 p.m. when officers conducting security checks at the north entrance of the CVC found a machete in the man's bag. Announced.

The X-ray machine was turned off as the bag passed, and police arrested the man before they could secure the machete.

Police added that the bag also contained three knives as well as a machete.

As a result, security inspections on the north side of the CVC have been suspended to allow for an investigation into the matter.

The man, whose identity has not been identified, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of possession of a dangerous weapon.
