Police have announced that they have arrested a man connected to the investigation into the discovery of human bones in Bristol and on Clifton Suspension Bridge in west London.
A 24-year-old man was arrested at Bristol Temple Meads station in the early hours of Saturday morning and detained. He will be taken to London for questioning.
Police said they were not searching for any further people in connection with the incident.
Deputy Commissioner Andy Valentine, of the Metropolitan police, said: “This is a major development in our investigation and I would like to thank the public for their support.”
The investigation is being carried out by officers from Avon and Somerset Police and the Metropolitan Police. The Metropolitan Police have taken over the investigation after it was suggested the suspect may have travelled from London to Bristol earlier that day.
On Friday, police found a further body in an apartment in Shepherd’s Bush, west London, and the two cases are believed to be linked. The Metropolitan police said officers believe they know the identities of both men, although formal identification has yet to take place.
The bridge, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and opened in 1864, reopened on Thursday after being closed for more than 24 hours. It normally carries between 11,000 and 12,000 vehicles a day.
