Police arrest man on 178 counts of animal cruelty after searching Baltimore home: ‘Deep depravity’

Maryland State Police have condemned the “profound depravity” they found in the home of a man who has been charged with 178 counts of animal cruelty.

The property owner called police in May after the tenant failed to pay rent, and when police executed a search warrant at the Baltimore home, they found dozens of abused animals, documents state. Reviewed From WBAL-TV.

“Animal cruelty is a serious and unacceptable crime that reflects deep depravity.”

The Baltimore City Attorney’s Office said animal control officers found 83 dogs at a home in the 5100 block of Pembridge Avenue, many of which had heart murmurs, were dehydrated and in poor health.

Many of the dogs were found in boxes filled with feces that gave off a strong ammonia smell, police said. Authorities said the dogs were confiscated and transported to the Baltimore Animal Shelter.

Police identified the man as 46-year-old Robert Conley and believe he was selling the animals on Instagram for about $1,500 each.

“Animal cruelty is a serious, inexcusable crime that reflects a profound depravity and disregard for the welfare of innocent creatures,” Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates said in a statement. “The 178 animal cruelty charges in this case underscore our determination to hold accountable those who harm animals.”

The dogs will receive medical care and be made available for adoption or fostering.
