Police arrest teacher for allegedly ‘touching,’ ‘making out’ with 11-year-old student — just months before her wedding

A Wisconsin teacher was arrested this week on suspicion of having an inappropriate relationship with a fifth-grade student.

Police arrested Madison Bergman, 24, a teacher at River Crest Elementary School in Hudson, Wisconsin, on Wednesday after receiving information “regarding inappropriate conduct between a current teacher and a fifth grader.” According to WCCO-TV.

The information came from the parents of an 11-year-old student, who said they found evidence of an inappropriate relationship in text messages between their son and Bergman. According to KARE-TV, police said the text messages included details about the alleged relationship, including “kissing, touching, and making out.”

The parents presented evidence to school administrators on Wednesday, who immediately got police involved.

Inside Bergman’s backpack was a folder with the victim’s name written on it, which contained numerous handwritten notes, police reported. The victim later told police that she and Bergman wrote each other notes throughout the day. Many of the letters talk about the two kissing, according to court documents.

“One of my cousins ​​is in fifth grade and I can’t imagine what kind of conversations men have with her. I know we have a special relationship,” Bergman wrote in one of the letters. I love you more than anyone else,” he said. In the world, but here you have to grow up and stop.”

When police questioned Bergman, she told them that the student’s mother gave her the 11-year-old’s phone number when they accompanied her on a winter ski trip, KARE said. report.

However, when police asked Bergman about the evidence, she exercised her right not to speak further.

School officials said in a statement: “It is deeply concerning to all of us to learn of this alleged inappropriate conduct that is a breach of trust with our school staff.” “We understand the gravity of this situation and are committed to providing the necessary support to the children who may be affected.”

Bergman is charged with one count of first-degree child sexual assault. She was released from jail after posting a $25,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court later this month.

Under the terms of his release, Bergman must wear a GPS monitoring device and is prohibited from having contact with the victim or anyone under 18.

The wedding website shows Bergman is engaged, with the wedding date set for the end of July, less than three months from now.
