Police Search for Suspect After Brown University Shooting

Authorities are still on the hunt for the individual who opened fire at Brown University, which resulted in the deaths of at least two people and left nine others injured. Law enforcement officials emphasize that initial details can often be confusing or conflicting, making it crucial for officers to confirm information before taking further action.

“The circumstances can change quite quickly in a situation like this,” noted Jason Pack, a former FBI supervisory special agent. With 21 years of experience, he pointed out that early reports can come from various stressful sources, meaning that law enforcement has to fact-check everything before publicly sharing it.

Pack remarked, “Meanwhile, officers are involved in some of the toughest tasks: ensuring safety in locked-down buildings.” He described the law enforcement efforts as “methodical, time-intensive, and inherently dangerous.”

Shooting Reported on Campus

Following the shooting, which occurred around 4 p.m. local time, there was a sighting of the unidentified male shooter leaving the Barth and Hawley College of Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), are investigating. The suspect was last seen wearing dark clothing.

Multiple Shootings in Pennsylvania

In another incident, reports have emerged of multiple people being shot at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, prompting further investigation.

Pack emphasized that officers at the scene are proceeding cautiously, often in low visibility, and with limited details. They must consider that individuals inside the buildings could be frightened, hiding, or unable to communicate effectively.

“It demands discipline and thoughtful action rather than haste,” he stated, adding that searches might extend into Sunday. “This is why updates can evolve over night; law enforcement must navigate the balance between acting swiftly to save lives and taking the necessary time to ensure nothing is overlooked.”

Pack concluded, “The goal is clear but challenging: every space must be secured, and every potential threat must be resolved before any restrictions can be lifted.”
