Suspicious Doll and Child Abuse Material Found in Oakhurst Home
Authorities have reported the discovery of a “lifelike child doll designed for sexual use” at the residence of a man suspected of filming his family during a vacation. This incident took place in Oakhurst, where police found the doll tied up inside Christian Palmere Edwards’ home.
Along with the doll, investigators uncovered new children’s clothing and a significant number of files containing child sexual abuse material during the search.
“This indicates a troubling escalation in behavior, moving from viewing images to engaging in physical actions,” said Kate Waltman from the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.
Cops allege that Edwards not only possessed and distributed such materials but also surreptitiously recorded guests’ private moments, which has led to further charges regarding invasion of privacy.
He’s under suspicion for filming a woman and child who were staying in a different area of the home. The investigation kicked off after the National Center on Missing and Exploited Children flagged an online distribution operation in the area.
Police have seized around 30 digital devices from Edwards’ premises, which are now undergoing forensic examination.
Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue emphasized that “protecting the innocent and holding criminals accountable are our top priorities.” The investigation is being carried out in collaboration with the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which is working to identify potential victims.
This case highlights a troubling trend; the Internet Watch Foundation has reported an unprecedented surge in online exploitation, with a record count of 291,273 cases of child sexual abuse documented in 2024—averaging about 800 reports each day.
