Police in Big Democratic Cities Might Need Guard Assistance, but Trump is Not Good

Discussion on National Guard Support Amid Police Challenges

During a recent episode of “The Last Word” on MSNBC, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) suggested that the metropolitan police in a city led by a Democratic mayor may need “some kind of support” from the National Guard. He expressed concern that President Donald Trump is currently focused on “more diversions.”

Host Lawrence O’Donnell commented on the situation, stating, “It seems more organized when the Senator, particularly from such a significant Democratic city, is engaged on September 3rd with matters related to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, along with a potential press conference in Washington.”

The White House weighed in, indicating, “I believe police stations definitely require some assistance. Particularly, metropolitan areas tend to be quite busy. You can handle paperwork and run errands, and the National Guard can play a role in supporting safety measures in U.S. cities. A prudent city mayor should ensure coordination with these additional groups, ensuring they don’t take on arrest powers or core law enforcement tasks but rather support judicial processes.” O’Donnell then added, “It seems like the mayor and city officials in Washington have hinted at this and expressed their desire for Trump to address their concerns.”

The White House reiterated, “Of course, you want to assist with tasks like delivering packages, and there’s quite a bit that can be done to support police operations.”
