A puppy in California has gone missing after a suspect, attempting to dodge arrest, threw the dog at a sheriff’s deputy. The local police then found themselves explaining a somewhat unflattering photo of the six-month-old dog that they released, which they acknowledged wasn’t exactly “adorable.”
This unfortunate incident occurred in Salinas on Monday when a suspect named Orlando Figueroa Martinez, 38, was confronted by officers who aimed to apprehend him. In his panic, he threw a miniature Doberman named Money, as the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department announced on social media.
In the chaos, the little dog scurried away. As part of the effort to locate him, deputies released a rather blurry image, showcasing Money with wide eyes and a somewhat fierce expression.
In reactions on social media, one user remarked, “Do you think he looks a bit angry?” while another expressed concern, stating, “It looks dangerous. I just want him back home.” The sheriff’s office clarified later that Money wasn’t owned by the suspect and that he had a loving family eagerly wanting his safe return.
“Sadly, the owners didn’t have a better photo available,” officials noted, emphasizing that six-month-old Money is friendly, though likely a bit scared after the ordeal.
Figueroa Martinez is now facing serious charges including weapons felonies and animal cruelty. According to the sheriff’s office, he attempted to escape on foot while disregarding commands. During the chase, he threw the dog and persisted in resisting arrest.
The sheriff’s office is appealing to the community for help in keeping an eye out for Money, as they just want to see the pup safely back with his family.
