Local, state, and federal authorities responded to an active shooter situation at a Catholic school in Minneapolis on Wednesday, as reported by various sources.

Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz noted that he was informed about the incident at Annunciation Catholic School and mentioned that updates would follow as more details emerged. He expressed concern for the students and teachers, whose first week of school had been marred by this violent act.

Police reported that, around 10:29 AM, there was no ongoing threat to the community. The city of Minneapolis informed the public that the shooter was included in the situation, and paramedics were preparing to assist the victims.

A student from Annunciation Catholic School relayed to the Associated Press that classes had been evacuated. Earlier that day, the school had scheduled classes for kindergarten through eighth grade, starting at 8:15 AM local time, according to its website.

Mayor Jacob Frey shared his concern in a post and stated he was keeping in contact with the police chief and the emergency response team, emphasizing the need to give officers space to handle the evolving situation.

Former President Trump also commented on the tragedy via social media, mentioning the FBI’s immediate response and the White House’s commitment to monitoring the situation. He urged prayers for those involved.

The Department of Homeland Security acknowledged the frightening incident and stated it was in contact with partner agencies, promising to provide updates as information became available. DHS Chief Christa Noem expressed her thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families.
