Police responding to reported shooting at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston

Authorities in Texas said they were responding to reports of a shooting at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced Sunday afternoon that “shots may have been fired in or around Lakewood Church.”

“We have a @HCSOTexas congressman working a temporary job there,” Gonzalez told X. “Information is still preliminary. The scene is within the @houstonpolice area.”

Less than an hour later, Texas police confirmed the scene was Lakewood Church.

“The scene is Lakewood Church on a S.W. service road. There is heavy traffic near and on the service road,” Houston police wrote to X.

“Please avoid the area and use alternative routes. We have PIOs en route to the scene and will provide any updates here.”

Lakewood Church confirmed the shooting at X and asked patrons to “please pray for Lakewood and our community.”
