Her 11-year-old daughter was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Colorado Springs Police Department spokeswoman Ira Cronin said she could not provide further details about how the children were killed or why Singler and her 11-year-old daughter were injured.
After spending several days in the hospital, the 11-year-old boy was released. Cronin said she is not with her mother and is currently recuperating in Colorado Springs. He also said Singler's injuries were minor.
Singler, 35, was initially “cooperative” with police investigating the children's deaths. But as the investigation progressed and the robbery report was ultimately determined to be unfounded, Cronin said Singler disappeared from her sight.
“As the investigation into this incident progressed, it was determined that the initial report of a robbery was unfounded,” a police statement said.
On Tuesday, police were able to present evidence to obtain a warrant for Singler's arrest, but police assumed she was already on the run by then, Cronin said. Cronin also said Singler was last seen Saturday in Colorado Springs.
“In the early stages of the investigation, we were treating her as a robbery victim,” Cronin declared.
The 9-1-1 robbery report was said to have come from inside Singler's apartment, but Cronin declined to say who made the initial call.
Vicki Migoya, a spokeswoman for the FBI's Denver office, said Thursday that the FBI is assisting police in searching for Singler.
