Police Shoot and Kill Man Armed with a Knife at Missouri Airport, Authorities Report

Police Shooting at St. Louis Airport

A police shooting occurred inside Terminal 1 of St. Louis Lambert International Airport early Friday morning, resulting in a man’s death after he refused to drop a knife, according to authorities.

Approximately at 1:05 a.m., officers noticed a man with a knife during routine security checks at the airport. Despite warnings to drop the weapon, he did not comply.

“As officers attempted to persuade him to leave, he not only refused to drop the knife but also started confronting them. They first used a less-lethal Taser, but he continued to approach. Eventually, a second officer discharged his firearm, which resulted in the suspect’s injuries. Tragically, he is now deceased,” a spokesperson for the police department said.

There were no additional reports of injuries linked to this incident. The officers involved were previously law enforcement personnel, having served six months and a year, respectively.

Rhonda Hamm Niebrugge, CEO and Airport Director of STL, released a statement acknowledging the tragic nature of the event. She expressed pride in the response, noting that police intervention allowed the airport to resume normal operations quickly.

The airport is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department.

Additionally, the Terminal 1 Metrolink station was briefly closed following the incident. It was reported that passengers were redirected to the T2 station and informed about shuttle services.

The T1 MetroLink station reopened later around 7 a.m., according to reports.

The airport has yet to provide further comments on the matter.
