Just hours before the Miami Dolphins open the 2024 season against the Jacksonville Jaguars, superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill was arrested and charged with reckless driving. Hill was stopped by officers this morning as he was driving into the stadium, handcuffed and pinned face-down in the pavement.
update: Miami-Dade Police released body camera footage of the incident on Monday, which Miami-Dade Police Chief Stephanie V. Daniels said is more than 100 minutes long. According to Daniels' statement:The footage was released as part of the police department's “commitment to transparency and maintaining public trust.”

Previously: Miami-Dade Police placed one of their officers on administrative leave following the incident. Dolphins defensive lineman Calais Campbell, who was also reportedly at the scene, said he believed the officers used excessive force against Hill. Campbell also said he was taken into custody.
Calais Campbell says he was detained by police while trying to defuse a situation between police and Tyreek Hill. He saw Hill handcuffed and thought it was “excessive force.” Police also handcuffed Campbell. He was accused of disobeying a direct command.

According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, there was an altercation between Hill and police that resulted in Hill being handcuffed. Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, arrived on the scene, defused the situation and allowed Hill to enter the stadium.
The Dolphins released a statement on the situation.
“WR Tyreek Hill was involved in a traffic accident this morning about a block from the stadium and was briefly detained by police. He has since been released. Several teammates witnessed the accident and stopped to offer their support. Tyreek and all other players involved have arrived at the stadium safely and are expected to play in today's game.”
Hill is expected to play against the Jaguars.
