NYPD Sergeant Allegedly Made Death Threats Against Ex-Officers

An NYPD sergeant has reportedly issued online threats against two retired officers and their families, but officials confirmed that no criminal charges will be filed against him.

The podcast “New York’s Best: Unretired” is known for criticizing NYPD leadership. Retired officers John Macari Jr. and Eric Dim reported a series of alarming messages to the NYPD’s internal affairs in January, suspecting they stemmed from the podcast.

One of the most unsettling posts surfaced on Instagram under the handle “AllCopsareWoke,” or “Acaw.” Posts included stock images of children, with one stating, “Hopefully nothing will happen to your family. Your kids are precious,” and another saying, “They’re such lovely kids. Hopefully, they live a long life.”

One message ominously noted, “Acaw is now following your home.” Another displayed a map of the Southern U.S. with arrows leading to Florida, paired with a message about counting time on Earth.

The podcast’s discussions on policing have caught the attention of NYPD leadership. Co-hosts and guests have questioned crime statistics, especially in light of Mayor Adams’ claims of declining crime rates.

Following the threats, the NYPD identified the suspect as Sergeant Sean Mohabir. Records confirmed he was 30 years old and had recently received unpaid leave. Mohabir, earning $147,114 annually after five years, resigned in March.

While Macari and Dim retired in 2022, they have no prior connection to Mohabir.

Officials have not disclosed Mohabir’s assignments or responsibilities. Macari and Dim have expressed frustration, repeatedly requesting the NYPD to take action against Mohabir.

“If this maniac does something, it’s on them, not us,” Macari commented, adding that he believes the investigation was merely a cover-up.

The NYPD suggested that the former officers file complaints with local law enforcement in Florida, where both reside, although Dim was traveling abroad during a particularly difficult family crisis.

On April 26, NYPD Sergeant Travis Rutherford contacted the St. John’s Sheriff’s Office in Florida to refer a complaint regarding the threats, despite the age of the allegations. Shortly after, deputies visited Macari’s home but ultimately determined there was no immediate danger.

Law enforcement experts argue more could have been done. Scott Duffy, a former FBI agent, pointed out that threats made across state lines violate U.S. law regarding interstate transmission of threats.

Dim questioned why the NYPD did not file charges, suggesting they should have collaborated with federal officials given the seriousness of the threats.

Macari and Dim also implied that the NYPD might have altered the case due to the anonymous posts posing a potential danger to them.

An NYPD spokesperson did mention that multiple officers faced disciplinary action related to the threats, though specifics were not provided. When contacted for a response, Mohabir reportedly hung up.
