Politico Shields Pro-Migration Advocates by Holding Biden Responsible for Trump's Win

Politico Attempts to Shield Mayorkas Amid Biden’s Immigration Struggles

Politico is working to protect President Joe Biden’s border chief, Alejandro Mayorkas, along with his Wall Street connections, from being held accountable for the Democratic Party’s struggles, especially regarding Donald Trump’s potential 2024 victory.

In a May 12 interview, Mayorkas, an advocate for immigration, indicated that issues with his policies were caused by internal conflicts within Biden’s administration.

It seems you’ve become quite the target for a president who, well, lacked a clear immigration policy and was unsure of how to handle border control. How does that make you feel?

Mayorkas seemed to accept Politico’s narrative, stating, “I realized I was pretty resilient.” He added, “I found myself quite resilient.”

As a cabinet member, it’s my duty to implement the president’s orders. Whether I support these decisions or not, I’ve made my stance clear and carried out the directives once finalized.

This effort by Politico is notable because Mayorkas’ allies, especially those at FWD.us advocating for West Coast investors, continue to push for more immigration. For instance, FWD.us and similar groups are backing the “cheap labor” immigration bill promoted by Rep. Marie Salazar from Florida, along with various business organizations.

Nevertheless, Mayorkas has stated that, under Biden, the approach to immigration was somewhat welcoming, even while he called for lawmakers to address the unpopular influx of migrants.

He has voiced support for “Bidenomics,” suggesting that bringing in millions of immigrants would stimulate the economy by creating renters and low-wage workers.

However, the significant immigration wave led to serious political repercussions, including wage reductions for American workers, rising rents, increased crime rates, sluggish productivity growth, and inflation, ultimately highlighting the elite’s disregard for public sentiment and safety.

Since the setback, several of Biden’s immigration-supportive legislators have avoided challenging questions from mainstream reporters. In March 2025, Mayorkas attributed his failure to “communication and narration,” as well as to the Republican governor.

Yet, in December 2024, he admitted to CBS News that mass immigration had been a deliberate choice. When questioned about the timing, he said, “Why wait until five months before the U.S. election? The crisis is now over!”

Looking back, I wish I had recognized that irresponsible politics back in 2020. It could have jeopardized a valuable effort and outcome.

The interviewer from Politico also prompted Mayorkas to disassociate himself from the elite-driven immigration lobby, questioning if he felt supported by Biden. Mayorkas seemed to accept the implied support but refrained from criticizing the president.

There were disagreements on immigration policy, but I voiced my opinions. I’m pleased with the smart reforms we made in June 2024, which we believe were effective.

When asked whether earlier action would have prevented a Trump presidency, Mayorkas replied, “I can’t speculate, but he might be better off resting rather than throwing punches.”

Mayorkas then outlined his public relations strategy to promote immigration, despite widespread opposition, saying that by June 2024, they intended to enhance border security while offering a legal path for migrants, which he argued would be safer and more humane.

Politico, however, overlooked the significant impact of Mayorkas’ public relations initiatives.

Many Democrats, including those labeled as “moderates” in the media, like Rep. Tom Suozzi from New York, are beginning to support variations of Mayorkas’ PR tactics to defend the immigration increases sought by donors.

Yet, numerous polls indicate that most Americans increasingly recognize the downsides of both illegal and legal immigration, suggesting it diverts wealth to Wall Street while bringing crime and chaos to local communities.

In contrast, Trump’s Republican Party has adopted a different stance, claiming that globalization’s demand for cheap labor harms innovation. Vice President J.D. Vance articulated this viewpoint in March 2025, emphasizing that true innovation raises productivity and enhances employee dignity.

The evidence suggests that focusing on robotics and technology could lead to wage increases and improve everyone’s quality of life.
