Poll Shows Growing Pessimism Among Americans About the Economy

Americans’ outlook on economy becomes a bit more pessimistic: Poll

The American public’s perception of the economy has turned slightly more negative compared to last month, as revealed by a recent poll. release on Thursday.

In a new CBS News/YouGov survey, about 29% of respondents, which is three in ten, expressed expectations for economic growth next year, a decline of five percentage points from February. The percentage of Americans anticipating a recession in 2025 has increased by five points, from 23% in February to 28% this month. Around 21% of the same respondents as last month predicted economic slowdown in 2025.

About 57% of individuals earning less than $50,000 reported their financial situation as “bad,” while 39% considered it “good,” according to the polls. Among those earning between $50,000 and $100,000 annually, 61% described their financial circumstances as good, whereas 35% indicated they were bad.

Thirty-three percent of Americans believe their situation is unchanged since last month. The survey indicated that approximately 60% of participants view the economy as being in a poor state.

Polls reveal that 76% of US adults stated they are not keeping pace with inflation, while only 24% disagreed with this statement. Approximately 70% of respondents expressed concern regarding their retirement savings, whereas 30% feel “safe.”

President Trump’s approval rating has increased in his second term, gaining support from Republican voters, notably men, despite around half of Americans indicating that the economy is worsening, according to a new Gallup poll.

An NBC News survey published earlier this month discovered that merely 18% of Americans view the economy as either “good” or “very good.”

The CBS News/YouGov poll was carried out from March 24th to 26th with 2,351 respondents participating. The margin of error was 2.5 points.
