Pollster Frank Luntz Tells CNN Host How Wrong ‘Pundits’ Have Been About Voter Perception Of Trump

Pollster Frank Luntz told CNN host Kate Bolduin on Tuesday how “experts” get it wrong when it comes to voter sentiment toward former President Donald Trump.

“Nobody expected Donald Trump to say something like that,” Luntz said. “The pundits really bashed him. [for] And our voters said, ‘Wait a minute. He’s holding her accountable. It’s time for politicians to be held accountable.’ That’s one of the great frustrations in America: We expect politicians to say and do whatever they want, and then they promise and they do the exact opposite, and we get so angry.”

Bolduin fired back at Luntz, saying Trump was “essentially telling the Justice Department to go after his political opponents.” Luntz countered that his comments showed a disconnect between pundits and voters.

“And that’s exactly what the pundits said,” the pollster said, “and voters said, ‘Hmm, yeah,’ he really would. I want someone that’s that tough, someone that can look me straight in the eye. And the opposite was Barack Obama.” [at] “Voters want someone who will talk to them, see them, be accountable for their words, say what they think and do what they promise.”

Luntz marveled Wednesday at how close the race was in Minnesota between Trump and President Joe Biden, with the former president losing both states. 2016 and 2020 election. Clinton suggested in April that Trump wanted to kill his opponents.
