Pollster Nate Silver calls on Biden to resign after claiming he isn’t ‘competent’: ‘Let Harris serve’

Campaign guru Nate Silver called for his resignation, saying there was no “special reason to believe that Mr. Biden is capable of being president at this time.”

Silver commented Washington Post article A Tuesday article reported that President Biden avoided reporters while attending the G20 summit in Brazil.

“President Joe Biden was in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, safe from mosquitoes, fire ants, and noisy macaws. But there was another pest he managed to avoid, and that was the group of reporters accompanying him. ,” the Post reported.

“During a six-day trip to Peru and Brazil that ended Monday, the president said little in public and answered few questions despite repeated advances. One television producer said Biden While getting on and off Air Force One, I wrote a message on a large piece of paper and held it up.

Silver suggested the report was a further sign of Biden's lack of leadership in the final weeks of his presidency.

“Is there any particular reason to think Biden is capable of being president at this point? It’s a very tough job. It’s a dangerous world. A very high-stakes decision in Ukraine. He should serve for two months,” Silver wrote on Wednesday.

Before the election, Mr. Silver frequently raised the idea that Mr. Biden would be replaced by another candidate, even calling on Mr. Biden to resign in July following his disastrous ABC interview with George Stephanopoulos.

Silver was commenting on a Washington Post article that said Biden was avoiding reporters while attending the G20 summit in Brazil. AP

“I made a gaffe in today's column and deleted the line that said we should develop a plan to hand over the presidency to Mr. Harris within 30 to 60 days, but I'm there now,” Silver said at the time. .

“Something is clearly wrong here.”

“The most generous way to put it is to say he doesn't seem to be in command, but that's extremely difficult to do in the position of commander-in-chief,” Silver concluded, adding that “Democrats are putting an incredible amount of pressure on him. He added that he believes he will. force the president to resign.

He previously suggested that Biden would replace him in June, adding that Democrats would have been better off if Biden had dropped out of the race last year.

“But Biden just hit a record low approval rating (37.4%) yesterday with an approval rating of 538. Dropping out would be a big risk. But below that, continuing to run would be a bigger risk. There are some thresholds. Have we arrived yet? I don't know. But it's more than fair to ask.

“What's more clear, IMO, is that if Biden had decided a year ago not to seek a second term, the Democrats could have gotten some sense of the primaries, and many popular Democrats across the country “We would have been able to give voters a say in the country.” ”
