Pope Francis makes ‘slight improvement’, got up to eat breakfast as he battles pneumonia

Pope Francis is on guard and is out of bed for breakfast and showing signs of “slight improvement,” the Vatican said Thursday.

The 88-year-old bishop, who is being treated at Gemeri Hospital in Rome, slept overnight, sat in an armchair for breakfast, a Vatican spokesman said in his latest health update.

According to the Vatican, the Pope's condition was stable, with recent blood tests showing “slight improvements.”

Vatican officials who didn't want to name them confirmed that Francis was not on a ventilator and was breathing himself.

The Pope was able to move around his room, called and still worked his paperwork, officials added.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited the Pope on Wednesday, saying he was “strong and sensitive.”

“He hasn't lost the proverb of humor,” Meloni said in a statement.

Francis was admitted to the hospital on February 14th after his bronchitis match worsened, and suffered from breathing difficulties for several days.

The Pope's latest illness is the latest in the long history of health problems he has endured over the years.
