Pope Francis Receives Backlash from Religious U.S. Leaders after Stating, “All Religions Are a Path to God”

American religious leaders have been outraged by Pope Francis' declaration that “all religions are a path to God” during a three-day visit to Singapore. At an interfaith meeting with young leaders at a Catholic college, the pontiff gave prepared remarks and then improvised, saying different religions are like “different languages” for reaching God.

“If we argue, 'My religion is more important than your religion, my religion is true and your religion is not,' where does that leave us?” he asked. CrooksNow“There is only one God and each of us has our own language to approach God – a Sheikh, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Christian – we are all on a different path. [to God]”

In response to the pope's comments, Bishop Joseph Strickland, who oversaw the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tyler, Texas, until he was removed from his position by the Vatican last year, said: Written X: “Please pray that Pope Francis will state clearly that Jesus Christ is the only way. To deny this is to deny Him. If we deny Christ, He denies us. He cannot deny himself.”

Par Christian PostStrickland was fired after disagreements with Francis over issues such as banning pro-abortion Catholic politicians from Communion and what outreach to the LGBT community is permitted in the Catholic Church. As a result, a petition was filed last year in defense of Strickland, claiming that he was fired for “publicly correcting Pope Francis' heretical statements.”

The Pope referred to the universality of God, asserting that “we are all children of God because God is the God of all.”

In Singapore, Catholics make up about 3.5% of the population, Christians 19%, Buddhists 31% and Muslims 15%, with Hindus and Sikhs as minorities.

In his address, the Pope urged young people to take part in and sustain interreligious dialogue: “Interreligious dialogue among young people requires courage, because youth is a time of courage in life,” he said.

Calvin Robinson, who recently moved from England to lead a church in western Michigan, also disagreed with the pope's comments.

“This is an unbiblical statement by Pope Francis. The Bible teaches the opposite. [H]”Heaven is small,” he said. post X. “In Christ's own words, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, but through me.'”

Pope Francis faced backlash and accusations of heresy on social media after he claimed in an interview with “60 Minutes” in May that the human heart is “fundamentally good.”

“I see tragedy, but I also see a lot of beauty,” he told interviewer Norah O'Donnell at the time. “Heroic mothers, heroic men, men with hopes and dreams, women looking to the future. That gives me so much hope. People want to live. People move forward. And people are fundamentally good. We are all fundamentally good. Yes, there are villains and sinners, but the heart of us is good.”
