Pope Francis rested during peaceful night at hospital following respiratory crisis, blood transfusion

Pope Francis, 88, rested on a peaceful ninth night at Gemeri Hospital in Rome after a respiratory crisis and blood transfusion, the Vatican said on Sunday.

This update comes after doctors said Francis, who removed part of one lung when he was younger, was in a dangerous state.

It is unknown if he is awake to eat breakfast.

The Pope suffered a prolonged asthma-respiratory crisis while being treated for double pneumonia and a complex pulmonary infection on Saturday.

According to the Vatican, he received a “high flow” of oxygen to help breathe, a “high flow” of oxygen to help breathe, and received a blood transfusion after a low count of clotting was revealed.

Francis “has been more painful than yesterday, but I'm continuing to spend the day in my armchair,” the Vatican said.

Doctors said Francis' prognosis was “on appointments.” The doctor said his condition was moving given his age, vulnerability and existing lung disease.

The main threat is that the infection enters the bloodstream, a serious condition known as sepsis, doctors said.
