Pope Leo responds impressively to a Cubs fan's heckling in the audience.

The Pope managed to charm at least one Cubs supporter.

Pope Leo XIV, who is a devoted White Sox fan, had a lighthearted moment during a recent visit to the Vatican, where he playfully took a shot at the Cubs, as shown in a clip released by Vatican media.

While driving through the crowd, someone shouted, “Go Cubs!”

Pope Leo responded with a grin and cheekily remarked, “Perdido! They lost!”

Of course, the Cubs were eliminated by the Brewers in a tough five-game National League Division Series.

Yet, the Pope’s beloved White Sox didn’t have much to brag about in 2025, either.

The team finished with a disappointing record of 60 wins and 102 losses, marking their third straight season of over 100 losses.

This clip reinforces that Pope Leo (his birth name is Robert Prevost) is indeed a big White Sox supporter.

In September, he reflected on growing up in a household split between Cubs and White Sox fans in Chicago, which he believes helped him gain insights into world diplomacy as he celebrated his 70th birthday.

This summer, while traveling in the Popemobile through Vatican City, Pope Leo was caught saying “White Sox” while the crowd chanted the team’s name.

Mr. Prevost was also present at the 2005 World Series opener against Houston in Chicago, where he watched the White Sox win 5-3, marking their first championship title since 1917.

Pope Leo even presented an autographed jersey to former White Sox star Paul Konerko during the 20th anniversary celebration of that championship.

Once he was elected as America’s first pope, people began to speculate about his baseball loyalties.

The discussion intensified, leading to my brother clarifying the situation publicly.

“He was never a Cubs fan, so I don’t know where that came from,” John Prevost told local Chicago station WGN TV. “He was always a Sox fan. Our mom was a Cubs fan. It’s confusing, really; our dad was a Cardinals fan too, so there’s that mix.

“Plus, our aunts from our mom’s side were all Cubs fans.”
