Pope Leo XIV Blesses Crowd in Slovakia Before DJ Performance
Pope Leo XIV created a memorable moment for enthusiastic attendees in Košice, Slovakia, earlier this month. He appeared via projection at the Cathedral of St. Elizabeth to bless the gathered crowd just before a show by Portuguese priest and DJ, Father Guilherme, popularly known as “DJ Priest.” This event took place on November 8.
“May the blessings of Almighty God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit descend on you and be with you always. Amen,” Pope Leo proclaimed, setting the stage for what quickly turned into a lively party atmosphere, complete with lasers and spotlights.
Father Guilherme had come to Košice to celebrate the 75th birthday of Archbishop Bernardo Bober, blending faith with a festive experience.
Footage shared by DJ Father Guilherme on Instagram captured the vibrant energy of the rave, showcasing Pope Leo waving at the crowd as electronic beats elevated the mood, drawing enthusiastic cheers from the audience.
In his caption for the post, the DJ commented, “Electronic music and faith in celebration of Archbishop Bernard Bober’s 75th birthday.” This seemed to resonate with many, as social media users flocked to the comments under a post from Polish news site Visegrad 24, sharing their reactions to the Pope’s blessing.
One user expressed excitement, saying, “Actually, it’s really cool,” while another confessed, “I didn’t think any religion was cool. Apparently I was wrong.” Others noted their disappointment at missing such a unique event, with one lamenting, “No one told me about a DJ priest holding a rave in Slovakia that was blessed by the Pope.” Another wished they could have been there, commenting, “Amazing. I wish we were there.”
Some reminisced about their own experiences, with one person reminiscing, “Okay, where was this Catholic church when I was a kid? I could have stayed longer if I had such a nice place!”
On a lighter note, a user humorously remarked about the event, commenting, “They’re never going to have an American pope again,” while another declared it “the best thing to happen in 2025.” One more quipped about the unexpected nature of the event, stating, “Popechera wasn’t on the bingo card for 2025.”
