In late August, Walmart recalled approximately 10,000 cases of apple juice after it was “found to contain potentially harmful levels of inorganic arsenic,” according to the Associated Press.
At the time, officials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) pointed to the fact that the drinks could cause temporary health problems, making the recall more urgent following the initial announcement on August 15.
But the AP article cites the FDA, which says the drugs are “unlikely to cause serious or irreversible medical problems.”
Now, the agency explanation According to CNN, the drink contains higher levels of inorganic arsenic than permitted by government officials.

According to an ABC 10 report, the juice is made by Refresco Beverages Inc., a company based in Tampa, Florida.
The report continues:
According to the National Institutes of Health, there are two types of arsenic, organic and inorganic, both of which are considered toxic to humans. Because arsenic is found naturally in foods such as rice and apples, it cannot be completely removed from the environment or food supply.
Arsenic reportedly found in apple juice sold in U.S. stores has been found to be inorganic arsenic, which is more dangerous to humans and is a designated carcinogen.
As of Tuesday morning, there had been no reports of illnesses linked to the drink.
According to the Cleveland Clinic Website“Arsenic poisoning occurs when high levels of arsenic are ingested, most often from drinking contaminated water. Immediate symptoms of arsenic poisoning include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.”
