Relationship Tests on Social Media

Well, it looks like he didn’t quite pass that test.

There are quite a few clever ways women can “test” their boyfriends, but one recent example has sparked an interesting debate online. A trending TikTok video features a couple, Toni and Austin, known as @thestandardta. In the clip, Toni presents a large leaf to her boyfriend, who responds sweetly, saying, “That’s beautiful, just like you.”

Now, while many women might blush at such a compliment, Toni rolled her eyes at the camera. It seems like a trivial moment, yet it was part of a parody involving what’s known as the “leaf test.” In this viral trend, couples gauge their compatibility based on how they react to each other’s leaves. Kind of whimsical, but, I guess, that’s social media for you.

The couple was clearly joking, but many viewers seemed to take it to heart, questioning whether the two were actually suited for each other. One commenter bluntly asked, “Do you like him?” while another quipped, “He deserves someone better.” It certainly caught people’s attention.

There were also defenders of Austin in the comments, with someone stating, “You dare me to side with the guy?” Another urged, “Please listen to the explanation.” It’s pretty clear that this isn’t the first time social media has examined relationship dynamics, and it probably won’t be the last.

You might recall the “olive theory,” right? As explained by a content creator, it’s a concept from *How I Met Your Mother* suggesting that couples are perfectly matched if one partner loves olives while the other hates them. It’s all about opposites attracting.

Then there’s the “bird theory,” where a woman excitedly reports seeing a bird, checking how engaged her boyfriend or husband is. It’s meant to show if he’s willing to have a meaningful conversation about her day. One commenter pointed out that for anyone skeptical about these quirky tests, they do highlight how connections work. If a guy isn’t showing interest in your life or only talks about himself, well, those could be red flags.
