An Oregon woman has been convicted of committing a hate crime after she confronted a transgender patron who misgendered her as she was using the women’s restroom at a Portland bar.
On Wednesday, 40-year-old Kathy McIntyre was found guilty of second-degree bias crimes and harassment in Multnomah County Circuit Court. Judge Christopher Marshall sentenced McIntyre to two years’ probation and 50 hours of community service, according to reports. oregonian.
McIntyre’s punishment stems from a 15-second confrontation with Reese Larsen, 35, a transgender biological male formerly known as Ronald A. Larsen.

The encounter happened on December 27, 2022 at Jake’s Place Sports Bar in Portland. McIntyre was a bartender and was at Jake’s Place after work.
Larsen allegedly cut in line to use the women’s restroom, angering bar patrons who complained.
Mr. McIntyre allegedly had a confrontation with Mr. Larsen about using the women’s restroom.
“When McIntyre cornered her and told her that she should use a different bathroom because he was ‘a man,'” court documents state.
Ms Larsen reportedly tried to “explain” her gender identity, “but Mr McIntyre, 40, used an expletive and told her to ‘get out’ and then pushed her away. “I pushed him away.”
The video showed McIntyre making physical contact with Larsen, but McIntyre claimed he was “creating space” rather than pushing Larsen.
Larsen claimed she was the victim of “transphobia”.

Mr. McIntyre apologized to Mr. Larsen in court and vowed to stay away from the neighborhood so that Mr. Larsen would not have to worry about his presence.
