Two children, ages 9 and 11, escaped from a stolen car and alerted a passerby who helped apprehend the suspected car thief, according to police in Portland, Oregon.
Police say the father left his car idling with his children inside during a sudden stop at a Portland business on Monday, when a woman, later identified as Iosha Dashe Milledge, 33, was killed. jumped into the driver's seat and took off.
“The father attempted to stop the theft, but the woman accelerated away from the scene with her two children still in the back of the vehicle,” Portland police said in a statement. “The father sustained minor injuries to her hand.''

The good Samaritan called 911 and stayed with the children until responding officers arrived, made sure they were uninjured, and reunited them with their father.

Shortly after the initial 911 call, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office located a stolen vehicle on Interstate 5 in North Portland.
The suspected car thief ignored lights and sirens and ignored commands for a pullover, sparking a pursuit on a highway leading into Washington.

Multiple nearby law enforcement agencies joined in the pursuit and apprehended the suspected car thief less than 10 miles after crossing the state line near the Northeast 134th Street exit in Vancouver, Washington.
Mirage was arrested and charged with attempted escape, reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and fleeing.
The fugitive charge is the result of an arrest warrant for second-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery, and attempted escape in connection with incidents in the Portland area.

She is in the process of being extradited to Multnomah County, where prosecutors said she may face further charges.
