Portland police officer moved to a different position after TikTok video about ICE shooting

A police officer in Portland has been moved to different duties following the release of a TikTok video. In this footage, he reportedly responds to a protester who asked if he would shoot Renee Nicole Good, echoing a tense atmosphere stemming from her recent death. The incident occurred during a protest outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility last Friday.

In the video, the officer is heard saying, “If she drove her car at me, then yeah.” This remark comes just a week after an ICE agent was allegedly involved in a deadly shooting during an immigration operation in Minneapolis, leading to widespread protests.

During the exchange, a demonstrator accuses the officers of caring only about their salaries rather than community safety. “I like the pay,” the officer responds, prompting further criticism from protesters. One shouts, “People are being shot in the street and you’re talking about your paycheck?” The officer’s response points to the necessity of defending against threats.

The video highlights mounting tensions surrounding policing and community trust, particularly in light of Good’s recent death. Police Chief Robert Day acknowledged that they’re reviewing the videos circulating online of such interactions. Meanwhile, Mayor Keith Wilson expressed confidence in the police department’s ability to handle the situation judiciously, emphasizing the need for clear communication between the police and the community.

Wilson remarked on the broader implications, stating that the community feels shocked and saddened by Good’s death, viewing it as a tragic result of federal overreach. He underscored the necessity for local leaders to be aligned with the interests of Portland residents during these challenging times.
