Postmaster General covers his ears from House Republican questioning during Oversight hearing

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy covered his ears during a Congressional hearing as Rep. Rich McCormick (R-Ga.) repeatedly questioned him about oversight of the Postal Service.

McCormick told DeJoy during Tuesday's House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing that he doesn't get an “A” grade for leadership at the United States Postal Service (USPS).

“You've been rated by Americans and they're not using your services anymore,” McCormick said.

“That's not true,” DeJoy said as McCormick continued. “Our office is growing.”

When Mr. DeJoy interjected, Mr. McCormick said, “You are to blame for the collapse of the Postal Service and the lack of accountability,'' adding, “The responsibility for the collapse lies with this Congress. I am trying to rebuild the Postal Service.'' ” he said.

DeJoy told McCormick he was “talking to himself” before covering his ears.

The exchange follows continued criticism from election officials about the agency's handling of mail-in voting. Mr. DeJoy previously said it was wrong to suggest they could be expelled.

DeJoy argued that some election officials don't understand the USPS's efforts to return mail during the election period, and said the agency would be able to respond. Associated Press reported.

DeJoy also sought to debunk President-elect Trump's previous claims about mail-in voting, even though Republicans seemed positive about the process in past election cycles.

DeJoy said earlier this year that the agency was in “great shape” compared to four years ago as it prepared for all election-related mail.
