If the Mets and Yankees meet in the World Series, you can expect fireworks.

The Mets are scheduled to watch the Dodgers and Padres battle for a spot on Friday night, while the Yankees will face the winner of Saturday's ALCS Game 5 between the Tigers and Guardians.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, who coached with the Yankees from 2009 to 2023 and was Aaron Boone's bench coach since 2019, said after watching his old team win the ALDS on Thursday, ” sent a congratulatory email.
“It's great for baseball,” Mendoza said. “It's great for New York City that both teams are in this position and have a really good opportunity to continue moving forward.
“They're a really good team. They've got a really good coach, they've got some really good players. It's a deep roster. I'd love to see them, but I've got to take care of my job.”
The two clubs met four times this year, with the Mets winning the season series for the first time since 2013.

“New York has always seemed like a baseball town to me, so the atmosphere that's going on here right now is incredible and I'm definitely feeling the excitement in the city,” Nimmo said. “From what I've seen and heard, the city likes this. … But obviously both teams have things they have to deal with before that, and that's a big problem.”
