Cuba’s Regime Faces Critical Collapse

The current state of Cuba is alarming. The economy is plummeting, people are experiencing severe hunger, and the communist government is short on money, fuel, and credibility. After more than six decades of oppression, the regime appears to be in its weakest position yet. I know this well—having lived under it and fled from it. Today, I am the only Cuban-born representative in Congress.

This pivotal moment calls for clear and decisive action from the United States. We’re closer than ever to ending the tyranny in Havana, but this requires a firm stance, avoiding the mistakes of previous policies.

Conditions on the island are dire. There are critical shortages of food, medicine, and electricity. Hospitals are lacking essential supplies, and families are struggling to ration what little food they have to survive.

Let me be clear: this crisis is entirely on the regime’s shoulders. It’s the result of decades marked by disastrous mismanagement, rampant corruption, and a dictatorship that prioritizes its own survival over the well-being of its people.

For years, the regime has managed to persist by exporting repression and relying on external support such as oil from Venezuela, remittances, tourism dollars, and dubious business arrangements that enrich the military and intelligence sectors. That support is now dwindling.

Thanks to President Trump’s strong leadership and the rigorous enforcement of U.S. laws, the regime’s financial resources for repression are being severely restricted. Oil supplies are dwindling, and international allies are pulling back. Havana is running out of choices.

This moment is indeed different.

History shows that weak dictatorships don’t reform; they tighten their grip. In times of crisis, the Cuban regime resorts to silencing dissent, jailing protesters, and seeking new foreign allies.

Currently, one of its new allies appears to be Communist China. The Chinese government is expanding its intelligence activities and increasing its presence just 90 miles from the U.S. This could potentially turn Cuba into a direct base for operations against America. The downfall of a regime aligned with one of the U.S.’s most significant adversaries isn’t just a humanitarian issue; it’s a national security concern.

The United States should not provide any aid to the Castro regime.

We need to strictly enforce existing laws without exceptions. There shouldn’t be any loopholes—no misguided “humanitarian” aid that merely enriches regime-controlled entities while ordinary Cubans see no benefit. Attempts at engagement have failed miserably in the past.

Additionally, all remaining financial channels supporting the dictatorship must be severed. Many of these funds only bolster the oppressors, not the people.

Sanctions aren’t going to affect the Cuban people more than the regime already has. History, especially in South Africa, teaches us that sustained pressure can weaken dictators and hasten freedom.

Ronald Reagan famously remarked that communism is not a permanent state. It must end, as it contradicts human nature. This truth was evident when the Berlin Wall fell—not due to dictators taking the high road but because the desire for freedom overpowered fear.

Cuba is at a pivotal moment similar to that of the Berlin Wall.

I lost my hometown during my childhood and grew up in a Cuban exile community in Miami. These are resilient individuals who lost everything yet forged new lives in a great country. We are immensely grateful to America and firmly believe that freedom is worth fighting for. This belief is what compelled my community to support President Trump. Strength, not complacency, is what America needs.

Ultimately, we must communicate directly with the Cuban people. America stands with you, not with the oppressors. Our objective isn’t to create chaos or suffering; it is to enable freedom.

The communist regime is collapsing. Now is not the time for hesitation. We must enforce the law, exert maximum pressure, and stand firmly for freedom.

President Trump, it’s time to liberate Cuba.
