One lucky Powerball player in Georgia won an estimated $478 million prize Wednesday night, breaking the state's nearly 10-year lottery jackpot drought.
The winning numbers were 2, 15, 27, 29, 39 and a red Powerball 20.
After all six numbers are matched, the unknown winner will take home an estimated $478 million in prize money paid out over 29 years, or an estimated $230.6 million lump sum.
The odds of winning the Powerball grand prize are an astronomical 1 in 292,201,338.
Two ticket holders from Pennsylvania and Texas matched all five white balls and won $1 million.
Wednesday night's win broke a two-month drought for Powerball jackpot winners. On August 19, 2024, a California lottery player won a $44.3 million jackpot.
Four jackpot-winning tickets have been sold in the Peach State over the past 14 years.
William and Heather ten Broek won a $246 million prize on September 17, 2016, but opted for a cash value of $165,613,510.93.
They were shopping at a grocery store when Heather ten Broek reminded her husband to buy a lottery ticket. According to WSB2.
After their win, they shared plans to spend their wealth on travel, family, investments, and donate it to charity.
The $77.1 million ticket sold in June 2011 was never taken.
Georgia Lottery players typically have 180 days to claim their winnings, according to the state lottery website.
An unnamed player from New Jersey who bought a $1.13 billion Mega Millions ticket in March has yet to receive his winnings, but he has just over five months left to collect his winnings.
