‘Pray for King Charles,’ Christian Leaders Urge Following His Cancer Diagnosis

Church leaders from several denominations and organizations are calling on Christians to pray for Charles III as he battles an undisclosed form of cancer that was discovered during treatment for an enlarged prostate.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement that King Charles, 75, has “begun a regular treatment schedule” and postponed any “official duties” during this period.

“His Majesty will continue to carry out his state and official duties as usual,” the statement said.

King Charles decided to make his diagnosis public “in the hope of preventing speculation and aiding public understanding of people around the world affected by cancer,” the statement said.

Faith leaders in the UK and around the world called on Christians to lift King Charles in their prayers.

“I pray for God’s comfort and strength for the King and his family in the coming weeks and months. I wish His Majesty a speedy recovery,” said Archbishop of Canterbury and Senior Anglican. Bishop Justin Welby said.

The Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, echoed Welby’s views.

“Please join me in praying for His Majesty the King and the entire Royal Family,” Cottrell said. “May he and all those suffering from cancer know the healing presence of God’s love.”

“Merciful God, we pray for King Charles,” the Evangelical Alliance Prayer said. “During this time of sorrow and sorrow, we pray that he would know your presence. Give him time to reflect and rest so he too will know your peace. We thank him and ask you to guide and bless him as you were with his mother. Thank you for the gift he gave me and for the many years of public service he has given me.

“May he have wisdom in his decision-making. May he be well-coached and give him advisors of insight and integrity. Give him the energy he needs so that he may be a voice of hope and justice.” May he run the race well and teach others the love of God. Lord, bless King Charles. In the name of Jesus, amen.”

Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, said: “I am saddened to learn that His Majesty King Charles is currently undergoing treatment for cancer.”

“On behalf of the entire Catholic community in England and Wales, I offer His Majesty our warmest wishes and assure him that we continue to pray for a full and speedy recovery,” the cardinal said. Said. “God bless the king.”

A statement from Buckingham Palace said King Charles “has begun a regular treatment schedule but has been advised by his doctors to postpone any royal duties in the meantime.”

“The King is grateful to the medical team for the quick intervention made possible thanks to recent hospital procedures,” the statement said. “He remains completely positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full official duties as soon as possible.”
