Preferred Candidate: Harry Enten Discusses Which Trump Might Lead NC Senate GOP Primary

Lara Trump Eyes North Carolina Senate Run

CNN’s Harry Enten shared insights on “Anderson Cooper 360” regarding Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump, who is set to lead the North Carolina Republican Party in a potential Senate candidacy.

Senator Tom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, announced that he will not seek reelection. This decision came after Trump hinted at supporting a significant challenger if Tillis opposed the president’s “big and beautiful bill.” Enten noted that Lara Trump has garnered 48% support in the GOP primary according to the betting market.

He mentioned, “At this point, she’s the clear frontrunner for the Republican nomination in North Carolina, with a 48% chance of becoming that candidate.” But he added a note of caution, saying, “Winning the nomination is one thing; securing victory in the general election is a different challenge altogether. If former governor Roy Cooper decides to run, he could present a formidable opponent.” Cooper’s recent approval rating in North Carolina hovered around 50%, suggesting a tough race ahead for Lara if she moves forward.

In March 2024, Lara Trump took on the role of co-chair for the Republican National Committee, working closely with President Trump’s campaign. By December, she indicated her intent to resign after the president approved Michael Whatley for another term as RNC president.

There was speculation back then that she might seek to replace Secretary of State Marco Rubio, but she later clarified that she would not pursue that path, although she expressed interest in returning to public service.

In February, it was announced that Lara Trump would be stepping into a role on Brian Kilmeade’s Saturday show on Fox News.

As discussions around filling Tillis’ Senate seat continue, Lara Trump is among the early candidates mentioned, but other possible contenders include Whatley, Congressman Greg Murphy, Tim Moore, and Brad Knott, according to sources.

Lara Trump has not responded to requests for comment on her potential candidacy.
