Pregnant Woman Found Murdered in Mexico
Authorities in Mexico made a grim discovery over the weekend when they found the body of a 30-year-old woman from Indiana in a ditch in Chiapas. The local prosecutor, Maurika Lambert, reported that Makara Pendley had been brutally raped and bludgeoned to death. This shocking news was conveyed to the victim’s family, who were left reeling from the loss.
Lambert noted that her sister was over six months pregnant, emphasizing the tragedy even further. “It still doesn’t seem real,” she expressed in an interview, reflecting the disbelief many feel in such horrifying situations.
The prosecutor stated that Pendley’s body had been lying there for eight to twelve hours before it was discovered. The official cause of death was blunt force trauma resulting in a traumatic brain injury. This heinous act has not only led to a search for the perpetrator, but it also sparked concerns for Pendley’s seven children, initially reported missing along with her.
By Tuesday, authorities managed to locate the children and apprehend their father, although it’s unclear whether this information aligns with local reports. Lambert revealed her surprise, saying, “I thought he was a different person. I still feel like he’s a different person. I had no idea it was him.”
According to reports, Pendley fled from Indianapolis with her children and their father, fearing they might be taken away. She and the kids had been missing since February 2026, at which point authorities in Indiana were alerted. In a twist, the father of the children has a concerning history, previously arrested for various crimes, including rape and assault.
Describing the relationship between her sister and the children’s father, Lambert admitted it was toxic, possibly contributing to the chaos that ensued. The local prosecutor mentioned that they are seeking a harsh penalty of up to 100 years for the individual responsible for Pendley’s murder.
The children, thankfully reported to be in good health, are expected to be returned to the U.S. along with their mother’s remains. Lambert lamented the loss, affirming her sister’s character. “She was a good mother. She put her kids first before anything else.”
Chiapas, situated in southern Mexico, is known for its diversity and rich indigenous culture. Unfortunately, various activists claim discrimination against these communities by local authorities.
