If you’re a fan of sports, this seems like a must-watch series.
ESPN is launching a six-episode documentary on October 8 called “Saban,” which will delve into the life, background, and philosophies of the famed college football coach, Nick Saban.
Highlighted by the journey of Saban’s remarkable 17 seasons at the University of Alabama, the series also revisits his earlier coaching stints at Louisiana State University and the Miami Dolphins in the NFL.
For the documentary, ESPN received hundreds of hours of previously unreleased footage from Saban’s time at Alabama, making it feel like a real treasure for football fans.
“Saban” will include interviews with over 70 individuals connected to him, such as Lane Kiffin, Bill Belichick, Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, Tim Tebow, Kirby Smart, Steve Sarkisian, his wife Terry, and of course, Saban himself.
Honestly, I thought a project like this was somewhat expected, yet it still piques my interest, and I’m sure it will be quite entertaining.
Saban has, without a doubt, managed one of the most meticulously organized operations in sports history. During his coaching career, what we mostly saw was a tough exterior — the intense press conferences, the emotional sideline moments, and his general reluctance to show any vulnerability.
What I’m really interested in is whether the series will take a critical look at Saban or if it will merely be a celebratory retelling of his successes. Will it delve into his exit from Miami and the way he left the Dolphins hanging? Will he address the transition to the NIL era and its impact on college football?
We’ll find out soon enough. I certainly have October 8 marked on my calendar — it’s definitely a must-see.
