Preseason betting odds, total wins, and expected roster for the Indiana Fever featuring Caitlin Clark

Indiana Fever’s Promising Season Ahead

The Indiana Fever surprised many last season, particularly when they managed to defeat the Atlanta Dream in the first round of the playoffs, even while short-handed. Despite guard Kaitlin Clark being sidelined due to a significant injury for most of the season, the Fever showcased their potential by pushing the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces to a decisive fifth semifinal game. This performance highlighted the talent of key players Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston, proving that the team has something special.

With Clark back on the court and presumably well-rested, analysts are optimistic about the Fever’s prospects this year. FanDuel has set the over/under for the Fever at a projected 30.5 wins for the upcoming season.

These 31 anticipated wins tie the Fever with the Las Vegas Aces for the second-highest expected win total, trailing only the revamped New York Liberty. Last season, the Fever wrapped up in 6th place overall, finishing with 24 wins against 20 losses. When Clark was fit to play, the Fever recorded an 8-5 record, which indicated they were on track for about 27 wins. With a challenging 44-game season ahead, there’s not much room for mistakes, but most predictions suggest around 25 games could tilt in favor of the Fever. Their blend of talent and coaching could certainly make them competitive in each of those matches.

The Fever also has the added pressure of being opponents’ prime targets due to the heightened media attention Clark brings. However, if Mitchell and Boston can carry the momentum they developed in last season’s playoffs, it could position the Fever among the league’s elite teams.

The core trio of Clark, Mitchell, and Boston remains intact. Additionally, guards Lexi Hull and Sophie Cunningham are back, but there will be a few new additions aimed at enhancing the team’s depth.

The Fever did lose two significant bench players: Natasha Howard joined the Minnesota Lynx, and Brianna Turner signed with the Las Vegas Aces. They also lost Chloe Bibby and Christie Wallace due to the WNBA expansion draft, as both were selected by Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo, respectively.

This offseason will presumably be crucial for building the team further. Indiana signed experienced two-way forward Monique Billings and Mysha Hines Allen as a free agent while also selecting South Carolina’s top four-year draft pick, Raven Johnson. Justin Pisotto from Vanderbilt and Jessica Timmons from Alabama complete a draft class that clearly emphasizes shooting.
