Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) said on Sunday in CNN's “union status” that Elon Musk “doesn't have” to “lay off” federal employees.
A Florida Republican explained that power was retained by President Donald Trump and his agency.
Scott said: And he's doing what I did when I became governor of Florida. You will see all the programs. This is what he said. He looks at the program he can. He gives information to the agency head and they are deciding how to move forward. ”
Anchor Jake Tapper said, “So I don't doubt people get tired of wasteful government spending. I don't think they think air traffic controllers are wasteful government spending. According to the Times, Transport Secretary Duffy accused Musk of trying to fire air traffic controllers even after multiple deadly planes crashed and closed. If the Transport Secretary is worried that Musk isn't doing this in a constructive and wise manner, why should Americans be convinced of that?”
Scott said, “Elon Musk has no power to fire people. They have a decision because the US president is Donald Trump and the engineer heads control their respective departments. That's what Elon Musk said to me over and over again.”
