Trump Meets Family of Injured Soldier Andrew Wolf
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump met with the family of 24-year-old National Guard soldier Andrew Wolf in the Oval Office on Thursday.
On Friday morning, the president shared a photo on Truth Social featuring Wolf’s parents and brother. This meeting took place just eight days after a shooting incident near the White House, where Wolf was injured and fellow National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom was killed. The shooter has been identified as Rahmanullah Rakanwal, 29.
In his post, Trump stated, “The great family of Andrew Wolf, a great National Guard soldier who was seriously injured protecting the nation’s capital.” He expressed that Wolf is currently in the healing process and that his family, along with friends, are in their prayers. “They are great American patriots!” he added.
On the same day, President Trump ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff globally in honor of Beckstrom. Both she and Wolf hail from West Virginia.
During a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Trump mentioned that Wolf was “fighting for his life” following the shooting near the Farragut West subway station just before Thanksgiving.
He shared, “He’s fighting very hard. I think he’s probably doing better than anyone… They said he didn’t have a chance.” Trump recounted a conversation with Wolf’s mother, who insisted, “He’s going to live,” immediately after the incident.
Trump remarked on her mother’s positivity, saying, “It was unbelievable.” Meanwhile, Beckstrom, who was 20, succumbed to her injuries on Thanksgiving Day, with Trump noting her parents are “devastated.”
He described Beckstrom as “a wonderful person, highly respected, and at the top of her class,” lamenting her tragic loss at such a young age.
Authorities have charged Rakanwal with “first-degree murder, assault with intent to kill, and unlawful possession of a firearm.” Notably, Rakanwal was allowed into the U.S. under then-President Joe Biden’s Operation Welcoming Allies after the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in September 2021.
