Sara Haines told the co-hosts of ABC’s “The View” on Friday that Joe Biden should drop out of the presidential race following his debate performance.
“It’s been really painful to watch and it hurts a little bit to say this today, but I think President Biden needs to step aside and have someone step in to replace him,” Haines said.
She continued, “If you want to beat Donald Trump in November, I think absolutely, and I think the Biden campaign foresaw that. I think that’s why they pushed for earlier debates, to have time to pivot if necessary, but they have to act fast. I would implore those closest to the president to have the very tough conversations that need to be had, not just for the political repercussions, not just for the sake of his humanity, not just for the sake of his integrity, not just for the sake of his legacy. I mean, everything is at stake right now. And Democrats need to stop spinning the issue of age. We’re sitting here and Alyssa has brought up repeatedly that a lot of people are concerned about his age, and yet Democrats have spinned themselves over and over again to say don’t believe your own lying eyes. It’s not true.”
She added, “We said at this table, look, Joy is 81. 81-year-old Joy Behar is not 81-year-old Joe Biden. And I want to be very clear: if November comes and it’s between President Biden and President Trump, I will vote for President Biden, because the other option is too scary to me. But I fear that many people in this country don’t feel the same way.”
