President Donald Trump cancels Canada's Board of Peace invitation

President Trump Holds Ceremony for New Peace Commission

President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that Canada is no longer invited to join a newly formed peace commission. In a statement shared on Truth Social, he informed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney that Canada would not be part of “the most prestigious summit ever assembled.”

“Dear Prime Minister Carney, this letter serves to formally withdraw Canada’s invitation to participate in the most prestigious summit ever assembled,” Trump stated.

During a speech and signing event at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Trump unveiled the board for this peace commission. He was accompanied on stage by leaders from various regions, including Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia.

The announcement followed Trump’s assertion that the U.S. should take control of Greenland to develop a large missile defense system, dubbed the “Golden Dome,” which he claimed would also provide security for Canada. “We’re building the Golden Dome, and, by its nature, it will be protecting Canada. And frankly, Canada owes us a lot. They should show some gratitude,” he remarked at Davos. He also expressed disappointment about Carney’s lack of appreciation during their recent meeting.

While Carney didn’t directly mention Trump, he criticized the declining global order and emphasized that nations like Canada need to move beyond mere compliance. He suggested that Canada should focus on a strategy emphasizing diversity, collective action, and respect for sovereignty.

Trump indicated that the new peace council would include prominent political, diplomatic, and business figures, including his son-in-law Jared Kushner, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and other notable individuals.

Interestingly, the President also invited leaders from countries such as Russia, Belarus, France, Germany, Vietnam, Finland, Ukraine, Ireland, Greece, Israel, and China to join the council.
