President Trump and First Lady Host 6,000 Guests for Halloween at the White House: 'No Tricks, Just Treats'

Halloween at the White House

On Thursday, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed trick-or-treaters for their annual Halloween celebration at the White House, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with fun and festivities.

About 6,000 guests arrived at the South Lawn, many of whom were children excitedly dressed in costumes, eagerly waiting for their special chocolate bars given out by the Trumps, according to reports.

Background music by the U.S. Air Force string band created a spooky vibe while, interestingly, construction continued on a new ballroom nearby, complete with the sounds of metal saws at work. Guests were even treated to a flyover by Air Force One during the festivities.

Videos captured the moment Air Force One flew above the White House as the Halloween celebration unfolded.

As the event continued, the White House emphasized that it was all “No tricks, just treats” at the gathering.

Additionally, footage shared by the Office of the First Lady showed Mrs. Trump coming out of the White House holding a little girl’s hand while they handed out what seemed to be iconic Hershey’s bars to the excited children.

The presence of the U.S. Secret Service was another notable aspect of this spirited celebration.

According to the White House Historical Association, the tradition of decorating the White House for Halloween began with First Lady Mamie Eisenhower in 1958. She threw a lunch for staff wives, featuring decorations like skeletons and jack-o’-lanterns.

The Halloween festivities have evolved over the years; during the Kennedy administration, the event gained prominence with photographs of the Kennedy children in costumes. Since then, various first families, especially those with younger children, have carried on the tradition of hosting Halloween events.

For this year’s celebration, Trump administration staff members brought their families to enjoy the spooky atmosphere alongside military, law enforcement, as well as foster and adoptive families.
