Trump Designates Antifa as a Terrorist Organization
President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that his administration would officially classify antifa, a radical activist group existing on both ends of the political spectrum, as a terrorist organization.
“I’m pleased to announce to many American patriots that I have designated antifa as such,” Trump stated. “I also strongly urge investigations into the funding of these ANTIFAs to ensure thorough legal scrutiny. Thank you for addressing this issue!”
A White House official later communicated to CNN that this designation was merely one of several actions the president is taking to confront leftist organizations associated with political violence.
This decision follows concerns raised by the younger demographic, reportedly energized by leftist ideologies, after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University last week. According to reports from Breitbart News, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller vowed to “utilize the full power of the federal government to target and dismantle the organized left-wing domestic terrorist movement in the U.S.”
Antifa labels itself as an anti-fascist group, yet its members have been involved in activities involving “doxxing, violence, and threats,” as noted by Fox News.
Interestingly, a bullet casing discovered near the suspected weapon used in Kirk’s assassination bore the message “Hey Fascist! Catch!” This phrase, along with “Bella Ciao Bella Ciao Ciao,” is derived from an anti-fascist song that became prominent during World War II in the Italian resistance.
