President Trump Signs Major Legislation on Independence Day

On July 4, 2025, President Donald Trump signed into law the “One Big Beautiful Bill” during a family picnic on the White House lawn, celebrating the 249th anniversary of American independence.

The bill had been narrowly passed by the House a day earlier, with a vote tally of 218-214, before it made its way to the President for final approval.

While addressing guests from the Truman balcony, President Trump spoke about the successes of Operation Midnight Hammer, expressing gratitude for those involved in delivering significant legislation to Americans on this holiday.

The event featured dramatic flyovers by advanced military aircraft, including F-22 and F-35 fighters and B-2 bombers.

“Just two weeks ago, our brave Air Force pilots executed one of the most remarkable military operations ever. Operation Midnight Hammer was a huge success. We are honored to have 150 airmen and their families with us tonight,” Trump stated.

“As we look forward to the 250th anniversary of our nation, we are building an economy that benefits the middle class, ensures strong border security, and stands unrivaled globally,” he added. “We have made Trump’s tax cuts a permanent feature of our financial landscape—the largest in history.”

Following his remarks, the President signed the law surrounded by congressional supporters, all of whom praised the legislation and its implications for the nation.

Democrats, however, opposed the bill entirely, raising concerns that stricter Medicaid and SNAP rules would jeopardize access to affordable healthcare for millions. They criticized the GOP’s claims of tackling waste and fraud within the healthcare system.

The legislation not only solidifies Trump’s 2017 tax cuts but also allocates funds for border security initiatives and reinforces the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) budget. Moreover, it eliminates certain taxes on tips and overtime while affecting the Biden administration’s clean energy tax credits.

“President Trump’s one big, beautiful bill embodies a sensible agenda supported by nearly 80 million Americans. This represents the most significant tax relief for the middle class, assured border protection, enhanced military funding, and economic recovery. We’re entering America’s golden age,” remarked a supporter.

In conclusion, with mixed reactions, the signing event on the Fourth of July marked a significant political moment, intertwining celebration with policy action.
